What’s Happening Around the District
Starting this school year, staff members will wear their #WeAreMISD district
pride shirt once a month to show that everybody is part of the MISD family.
More than 5,000 elementary school students
participated in the district’s summer reading
program. Janet Brockett Elementary School’s
Newton and Vina Nguyen were the top readers.
Superintendent Dr. V inspired Summit High School’s teen leadership
team with the story of his humble beginnings.
Imogene Gideon Elementary School, along with several other
elementary and intermediate schools, held a college color day to get
younger students in the college and career mindset.

Parents, students and teachers showed
their excitement for the first day of school
(#MISDDayOne) by sending in their pictures. The
district received approximately 1,500 photos!
The student-run Savvy’s restaurant at Ben Barber
Innovation Academy opens to the public on Oct.
17. Cajun items will be featured to start the year
off with a kick.
