Facebooks Artificial Intelligence researchers built a robot earlier this year which was designed to learn how to negotiate by shadowing humans. It was when the company paired two of these robots (names Alice & Bob) to trade with each other that they discovered his odd language, presumably learnt from each other. The robots were supposed to be learning how to negotiate balls, books and hats. They would assign value to the different objects to be able to negotiate trading. What is peculiar is, to us their conversation makes no sense just random words of English however it seems they were able to understand each other. The robots were shut down because their purpose was to be able to communicate with humans. Earlier this year Google revealed that their AI is used as a translation tool and it had created their own language which it was able to translate things into and then out of, it was not shut down because the company was pleased with its development.
