hat does the richest man in history do with all his money? Well, one thing is funding a clock. Not just any clock though; ticking once every year, the clock is being built in the heart of the Sierra Diablo

Mountains. Standing at 500 feet tall, it is predicted to tick for 10,000 years.

Danny Hillis is the inventor of the 10,000-year clock coming up with the idea in the 80s. He designed it in a way to encourage people to think about humanity’s distant future. After spending a decade designing the clock, it is now being built and installed within a mountain owned by Jeff Bezos who has invested $42 million into the construction.

The clock tick once every year with the century hand ticking every 100 and will keep time for the next 10,000 years. Designed as a symbol for long-term thinking, future generations will maintain the clock long after its creator’s death. The clock will work by harvesting energy from temperature fluctuations between day and night. There is no completion date for the clock, but there is already a huge amount of interest to visit the site once it is completed.
