Following the Volkswagen scandal in 2015 the UK government is proposing strict new rules for car manufacturers, which if broken could leave companies facing criminal charges. The department for transport outlined new procedures for measuring fuel consumption and revised previous emission standards.

Supermarket Aldi has committed to halving their food waste by 2030 following an announcement. This follows the grocer Co-ops pledge to reduce food wastage by continuing to sell food past its best before date. The Food standards agency agrees that food past the best before date is still safe to consume although it may not be to the fresh standards intended by the producer.

London’s mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled a new scheme aiming to make energy bills more affordable. Fuel poor homes will be offered free installation of boilers, insulation and heating control, worth around £4,000. Alongside this, the scheme aims to make workplaces more energy efficient and utilise clean energy in the capital by installing more solar panels. By 2030 Mr Khan has proposed that 1GW of energy will be being produced from solar panels, by being trialling a bulk solar panel scheme to reduce the costs for consumers. Small business will be offered cleaner boilers in replacement of old inefficient ones.
