Italian Architect Stefano Boeri is working on plans to help China tackle its pollution and smog problem by building a city fit for Tarzan.

Once completed the world’s first forest city, Liuzhou Forest City, will be home to 30,000 people. The city will have offices, hotels, hospitals, schools all covered in trees and plants. Around 40,000 trees and at least a million plants will absorb 10,000 tons of CO2 a year, producing 900 tons of oxygen into our atmosphere.

Building commenced in 2016, and the city is planned to be liveable in 2020. Liuzhou Forest City will provide a sanctuary for small animals, birds and insects. The vegetation will eventually decrease the average air temperature and create a noise barrier.

The city will be located in Guangxi, a mountainous area in the south of China. A fast rail line and a road purpose-built for electric cars will join Liuzhou and the City.
