CENTENARY YEAR
February 1, 2019: was the day in which saw British Airway’s mark its Centenary – 100 amazing years of 'taking the world to Britain and Britain to the world.'
British Airways can trace its origin back to the bitch of civil aviation. In the 100 years that have passed since the world’s first schedule air service on 25 August 1919, air travel has changed beyond all recognition.
British Airways Timeline:
1910 to 1919 – First daily international scheduled air service between London and Paris
1920 to 1929 – In 1924 Imperial Airways was created as the governments “chosen industry of air travel”
1930 to 1939 – Introduction of luxurious aircraft including the HP42 offered customers new levels of luxury aloft
1940 to 1949 – London Airport was officially opened
1950 to 1959- The delivery of the De Havilland Comet enabled BOAC to operate the first transatlantic pure jet service
1690 – 1969 – Came the delivery of Boeing 707s and Vickers VC-10’s to BOAC
1970 to 1979 – Arrival of the Boeing 247, the first wide-bodied jet. In 1974 British Airways was created by the merger of BOAC and BEA. In 1976 British Airway’s acquired the supersonic Concorde, operating it on transatlantic services.
1980 to 1989 – The privatisation of British Airways was completed in 1987
1990 to 1999 – unveiled new corporate identity incorporating its aircraft designs from around the world. A new fleet of Airbus aircraft was ordered for short haul services.
2000 to 2009 – Heathrow terminal 5 opened by Queen in March 2008 and orders for new Airbus A380s and Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s were announced.
2010 to present - Launched new routes, improved service
