Union lounge in the mid- ’ 60s

lumni Dennis Metzger ’ 68 , Rob Gratz ’ 70 , Tim Moffitt ’ 70 , Steve Mock ’ 77 and Jan Miller ’ 75 Mock shed some light on the mystery photo in the Fall 2016 issue . Collectively , they identified the fellow in the short-sleeved white shirt as Ted Studebaker ’ 67 and the man on the far side mostly facing the camera as Jim Gratz , former athletic director and head baseball coach . Dennis and Steve both remember Ted , who died in Vietnam in 1971 while performing alternative service as a conscientious objector to the war . The photo was taken in the lounge of the former College Union .
