101 Days celebrates
eniors who attended 101 Days to Commencement
Feb. 6 may have left the event with 101 ways to
remember their years at Manchester University. The
annual tradition, sponsored by the Office of Alumni
Relations, celebrates the soon-to-be graduates and
welcomes them into the community of MU alumni
across the country and around the world.
“It wasn’t until after I left that I realized what Manchester meant
to me,” Sam McFadden ’08 told the Class of 2014. MU and its
alumni stay in your lives, he added. “You’d be amazed at how people
are not only willing to help, but want to help you after you leave
Manchester.”
Mark Sherman ’79 told seniors what Manchester
has meant to his life. MU launched his career,
inspired his love for travel, and provided his closest
lifelong friendships. In fact, Sherman’s college
friends have met annually for 35 years at the
Main View Inn in downtown North Manchester
where they reminisce about old times and catch
up on one another’s news. They started out as
roommates, housemates and teammates, Sherman
said, and ended up as best men and ushers at
each other’s weddings and as godparents for each
other’s children.
Sherman has served the past eight years on MU’s Board
of Trustees, but told the seniors that “my real continuing
connection to Manchester has been through the really good
friends that I met here.”
The message resonated with Tyler Stevenson ’14, a sport
management major. “While you may move away from your
friends, you can still be connected by a strong bond. And you
will always find your way back to Manchester to catch up with
them, no matter how long it’s been.”
