Maleficent: When did you start designing jewellery and why?
Laila: Already in the early years of my life, I found myself to be fond of creating accessories.
The broken fragments of my great-grandmother’s accessories provided me with working material.
In the first stages of my adult life, working as a flower composer and helping out in a jeweller’s store, I felt unsatisfied.
A first attempt, though not professionally, to start an own line of accessories, was made. However, it ceased to exist quickly.
In a later stage of my life, I found myself feeling the need to craft again.
Thusly, Elegant Curiosities was born.
Maleficent: What makes you different from other designers?
Laila: Well, being different from other designers, is something – I believe – every designer tries to do.
However, if I must pinpoint something, I would say that working with non-conventional ideas and/or items is what makes my elegant designs so curious.
It has come to my attention that some other designers are inspired by this to step out of that ‘box’ as well. Also, I’m trying to reinvent myself, time and time again.
Thusly, Elegant Curiosities was born.
