#3. Some peace and quiet. As much as mom loves you all, there are times where she’d like to cuddle up with a book or watch her favorite chick flick without the added soundtrack of little voices and the dreaded inquiry of “what’s for dinner”. Dad, take the day off and grab the kids for a day at the park. Mom needs this.

#2. A spa day. Mother’s Day only comes once a year so even if just this once, send mom to the spa to enjoy a full mani-pedi, facial and massage. Feel free to add on the extras if you’re fancy. I’m sure she won’t object.

#1. A display of gratitude and appreciation. Mom does it all. She’s the cook, the maid, the fan, the preacher, the teacher, the counselor, the doctor, the lawyer, and sometimes even the judge. It is therefore a slap in the face when she can’t even get a simple “thank you”. Write her a poem, sing her a song, buy her a card, or spell it out in spaghetti (as long as you’re not leaving it for her to clean up). However you choose to do it, just make sure you do.

Regardless of which of these gifting ideas you choose to go with, make sure your mom knows how much you mean to her. And don’t let it stop today because mom isn’t just mom once a year. If your mother is still living, make time for her. Nothing says “I appreciate you” more than putting her first every once in a while. A mother is a blessing and a gift.

“To my mother, Lillian Scott Jr., you are my QUEEN and I thank you for raising me to be your princess. I thank you for your unconditional love, support and more. Most of all, I thank you-not only for all you do, but for who you are. A million “thank you”s could not suffice. You are God’s gift to me, indeed.

To my mother (in law), La Tonya Mays, I thank you for your son, for you love and for your compassion. I am blessed to have you as a part of my life as well.”

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms of the World! Thank you for ALL you do!
