Gifting Ideas for Mothers Day

Give Her What She Really Wants

Dear Dad and Kids,

Last year for mother’s day, you got mom that dress with the hideous print, that’s two sizes too big and five years too late. The year before, a treadmill and a cooking set the year before that. Now mom would never want to hurt your feelings and tell you that she hates getting stuff like this as much as you hate getting long-johns for Christmas but she’d never want to hurt your feelings. Besides, she’s a very simple woman with a very gracious heart. Well, you’re in luck this year because what mom won’t tell you, your friends at Malayzia Mag will. You can thank me later.

Here are some major rules of thumb that apply not only to gift shopping for Mother’s Day but to holiday shopping and shopping for mom in general:

1.Never get her something that can be translated to her as offensive, even if taken out of context. A n exercise machine tells her that you think she’s packing it on around the mid-section. Not a great way to say “Happy Mother’s Day”.

2.Never get the special woman in your life a gift for you (unless you’re her husband and it’s lingerie). Cookware and cleaning supplies are off limits except for when requested.

3.Listen. She will usually tell you what she wants (or at least hint at it) and when so, anything else has the possibility of causing disappointment.

So, what DO you do when mom doesn’t tell all you ask? We’ve asked 50 moms and here are the top five responses.

#5. A coupon for you to do the chores. Mom loves you but she’d love it even more if you pitched in every now and then.

#4. A handmade/homemade gift from dad and the kids. This one doesn’t have to be expensive but rather genuinely heartfelt. Gifts like this create memories that’ll last forever.
