Emotional Hunger
Most of us eat to satisfy our emotions . Remember this advertisement : ” when thirsty drink soda X . Why is it so memorable ? Because the food industry has learnt over the years how to capture and market to our emotions . We prefer to eat food when we feel down , unhappy or idle as opposed to filing up our emotions with activities like a walk , reading , connecting with friends etc .
When we get caught up in this unhealthy cycle where eating becomes our primary emotional coping mechanism our wellbeing is at risk because the real feeling or problem is never addressed . We need to learn to identify when we are satisfying emotional hunger as opposed to real hunger .
If you are bored , read a good book or call your best friend for a chat , if you are anxious or feeling low , go for a run ; it has been proven that exercise is the number one unutilized anti-depressant in the world .

If you feel hungry in less than 3 hours after eating a meal , you might not be truly hungry . Signs of hunger include feeling weak , irritable and the most obvious one is when the stomach rumbles or feels empty . Always remember that true hunger comes on gradually , not suddenly .

Learn to know when you are truly hungry and nourish your body with nutrient dense foods . Just think of how good you feel when you eat well , when you look good , when you feel good .
Remember junk will increase your cravings for the wrong food , you will feel sluggish , you will have less energy . Before you serve yourself always learn to ask “ I ’ m I really hungry and do I want that food to become part of me ?
Here is to your wellbeing !

The sugar levels in your blood stream determines your energy levels , mental clarity etc . When you have low blood sugar levels , you crave for carbs ( sugar ) as opposed to good fats and or protein . Sugar is addictive , in fact there is a study that shows sugar is 7 times more addictive than cocaine . When you eat too much of refined sugars , you crave for it more . It is quickly processed in your body and within minutes you are super hungry .
The sugar hunger resulting from low blood sugar decreases after abstaining from eating for about 15-20 minutes . It is important to balance your blood sugar by eating a balanced diet from whole nutrient dense foods .
Other triggers that are mistaken for hunger include ; lack of enough nutrients in the diet , addictions , seeing or smelling food etc …
