HEALTH MATTERS THE UPSIDES OF PRUNING YOUR LIFE! By Kepha Nyanumba E arth is home to millions of species. Just one dominates it. Human beings. Our cleverness, our inventiveness and our activities have modified almost every part of our planet. If you ask yourself what the biggest threat to human existence is Today you’d probably think of nuclear war, natural calamities or terrorists. FALSE!! The greatest threat to our lives and our well-being is our lifestyle. Ask people how they are doing these days, and the first word you will hear is “busy.” Probe deeper, and soon you may see frustration as they say, “exhausted.” We do more, go more, and buy more. Our gas tanks are full, our bank accounts are full, and our closets are full, but we are running on empty. Surveys say we don’t get enough sleep, we eat more meals on the run than at home, we take too many pills, and, worst of all, we don’t spend enough time with our children and the people we love. Making Wise Decisions Have you ever been amazed by the abundance of shortsightedness when it comes to making decisions? Have you ever wondered why such an important life skill presents such a formidable challenge to so ‘‘ Most healthy rose bushes produce too many buds. This leads to overgrowth and creates a drain on the plant’s resources. Ultimately, if left unchecked, most of the flowers will survive, but not thrive. Have you struggled with this challenge personally? The life you are leading today is the result of your past decisions and indecisions. If you don’t like your current situation, change the way you make decisions. Many people make decisions based on instant gratification with no regard for long term consequences. The most important key to making wise decisions is CONSEQUENCES! Every single decision you have ever made, or will ever make, has consequences. Once we learn to evaluate our decisions based on consequences, all the other considerations fall neatly into place from onset. It’s that simple! Life is made up of an infinite amount of choices. There are many aspects of your life which require your time and attention. With the limited time and resources available to us, it would be impossible to pay attention to everything that goes on in our lives. It would be wiser and effective, if you focus on certain areas of your life and work on them to improve the chances of your success and maintain the momentum of your life.
