many of the challenges confronting us ; including uprisings , insurgencies , dissensions and public protests are directly attributable to genuine angst amongst citizens to real and perceived inequality and injustice in society ; where the gulf between the rich and the poor alarmingly continue to widen seemingly unabated .
Inevitably and , consequentially , these challenges will surface when enough is enough . Sadly , many African nations and their leaders neither expect nor are prepared to handle this effectively ; many choosing , instead , to continue in their inordinate insolence and regimes of impunity which further leads to dissensions , knee-jerk reactive measures and ultimate chaos .
The call by the Late Dr . Songa for the people to rise is a vital and timely message ; a reminder and a social reawakening call designed to arouse the consciousness of citizens , beyond Kenya . The lack of these have led to the ineptitude , under-development and sustenance of the seemingly unabated status quo . The resulting universal social menaces therefrom are all too glaring and constantly overwhelming , even for latter generations .
Failure to act in these respects will yield the inevitable consequential voids between our inheritance and our legacy . Evil and social injustice chips away at the fabrics of society , not merely by the acts of their perpetrators , but by the collective sum of the silence and inaction on the part of the few righteous ; whose hearts will bear the burdens of guilt . And as MLK Jnr once said ; the moment we chose to keep silent on issues that matter most , is the day we become dead ; morally and spiritually .
Dr . Songa ’ s piece is really critical - appealing to the social conscience of all on the continent - the repercussions and consequences of our flagrant inaction and ineptitude are far-reaching , beyond Kenya . It ’ s not only about now , but about the future of Kenya and the continent at large .
