To compound their machinations the political environment has been especially harsh in the run up to elections . This year is especially a bad one as a few inconveniences have cropped up to interfere with their well laid plans .
The robbers unexpectedly lost a lot of money when Kenya held fair and credible school examinations both at the primary and secondary levels . This unforeseen act dented the war chest of many aspirants to the higher levels of thievery .
The opposition think they can beat the incumbents riding on the many scandals that have been the hallmark of the current government . Unfortunately being made of the same cloth , they cannot decide who should vie for the commander in thieve position .
We also have a pesky lot called doctors who have annoyingly chosen an awkward time to remember that the government had made them promises that they had no intention of keeping since they are not a big vote catchment and funds are usually reserved for strategic constituents .
The weather is not helping our politicos . A drought is inconvenient as you really cannot be buying votes of the starving , it is too expensive . It also reminds the thieves that you have to have someone to steal from and even a hard core thief cannot pretend when confronted by death .
When you combine an ailing drought hit population with doctors who have refused to attend to them , then you have a humanitarian crisis that the political aspirants do not want to deal with . During such times people do not want to know who to blame , they want a solution .
So our politicians are in a quandary as to how to proceed with their campaigns which would seem insensitive and callous . How do you ask people who are starving to register in large numbers to send you to the middle of the gravy train ?
It is apt that the process we shall be subjected to is called a campaign , yes it is a war . It will be vicious and bitter and the standard battle cry will be ‘ our man against your men ’. The definition of our man is usually determined by where he was born not his leadership qualities .
The war that will be waged will be managed in a manner that is guaranteed to tear the fabric that holds Kenya together . But it is a strange war that we shall be engaged in , a war with a difference because whoever wins we all lose .
If it was true that when our man wins we win , then we would not be hearing the rumbles of disquiet that is coming from the areas that are perceived to control power at the moment . The truth is that whichever way you vote you are voting for a thief .
This is a truth because the Kenyan moral fibre has been assaulted and denigrated for so long that we equate money with success .
Unfortunately it takes time to make money , so if you want instant success you have to steal it or acquire it in unscrupulous ways . It has not taken

Kenyans long to realise that the only place you can steal or sanitize your ill gotten wealth and get away with it , is in the government . So the government has become the most attractive for those intent on fraud .
If you do not interrogate the probity of the person you are electing , chances are you are electing a thief . In fact all those people who have been previously hounded out of public offices due to fraudulent dealings will find their way back to the government through your vote .
