DASHBOARD HYPE AND MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Every decision making needs information . At corporate scene , the functional , managerial and strategic levels need good sustainable and apt decisions . This means that there is need for timely and correct data and information for prudent decision making . Reliable and appropriate information helps management arrive at good and sustainable decision . This helps in prudent and timely decision making with profitable results .

The Dashboard Hype simply implies that you are in a position to see all the information easily in front of you so that you can decide quickly and correctly . The Dashboard Hype comes from an example that if you were to drive a car , usually there are data and information in the dashboard that you see before starting and driving off . These include light indicators for oil , hand brake , temperature , revving , time , fuel gauge , and speedometer among others .

Similarly , as a manager at a functional , managerial , and strategic levels , there are certain managerial indicators that you need to diagnose before you make good decision in light of company vision , mission , objectives , values and many more .
In real world there are many managers who forget company objectives and make questionable decisions that are accelerated by myopia , hatred , poor perception , and energy sapping attitudes that cause injury to institutions that they have been entrusted to lead .
Ordinarily good dashboard management calls for systematic data collection , proper data analysis and eventually presenting reliable and correct information to management . All this leads to good decision making .
Note that data is raw information and information is processed data which is helpful for decision making . Information can be both structured and informal . They are both useful as long as they assist in making good and sustainable decisions .
