The rocket is ready to take off . Destination – the moon . Engines turning full throttle , fuel on high combustion , the roar deafening . The count-down starts . Anticipation builds . Soon , lift-off .
Rockets take off by burning fuel . This produces gas as a by-product , which shoots from the rocket with great force and provides the required thrust to power the rocket upwards and break the force of gravity pulling it back to Earth . Like jet airplanes , space rockets work on a principle called action and reaction . The massive force ( action ) generated by hot gases firing backward from a rocket ’ s engines produces an equal force ( reaction ) that pushes the rocket forward through space .
Escape velocity is the speed that an object ( the rocket ) needs to be traveling to break free of a planet or moon ’ s gravitational pull and leave it without further propulsion . It is the speed at which the sum of an object ’ s kinetic energy and its gravitational potential energy is equal to zero .
The New Year , your personal launch pad into 2017 , is fast disappearing into the distance . If you are like most people , you probably made resolutions about things that you want to change this year .
Typical New Year ’ s resolutions include getting fit , having better relationships , spending more time with the family , stopping smoking , limiting alcohol consumption , saving more , spending less , investing more , spending more time with friends and family , becoming more spiritual , giving more , performing at your peak and others .
What were your resolutions this year ? How is it going ? If you are like most people you have by now slipped back to the old you and are probably not too excited about it because you do want to be different . You could be feeling disappointed , discouraged or even disgusted at your lack of progress .
We all want to change for the better and improve , but few of us actually do . The main reason for this is that we don ’ t decisively go for and purposefully create the life we want .

What represents gravity in your life ? What holds you down that you must push against and break free of ?
Several factors can represent gravity , including bad habits , procrastination , indiscipline and laziness which are all apparent in you not doing what needs to be done , when it needs to be done , in spite of how whether or not you feel like it .
