Trump had indicated that he would not concede defeat if Clinton won as he termed the whole election rigged in her favour . This monumental display of immaturity is all the more galling when considered in light of his first lecture to Africans .
In a response to a question about the trending issue regarding the proposed mass walkout of ICC by African countries , his response was typical Trump-ism ‘ I think there is no shortcut to maturity and in my view , Africa should be re-colonized because Africans are still under slavery ’.
That response , which is a snippet of more unsavoury opinions that Trump holds about Africans in general , paints a picture of an arrogant bigot and a racist to boot , too contemptuous of the people he was discussing to bother check his facts and statements .
First and foremost The United States are not members of the ICC . In their wisdom the Americans did not see it fit to subject its citizens to a foreign jurisdiction . If the ICC is not good enough for the Americans why should it be good for Africans ?
Why would you have such a strong view of an institution that you are not party to ? Or is this just another good example of American hypocrisy where the rest of the world is supposed to be judged by a yardstick that is not applicable to Americans . The typical do as I say not as I do .
In Trump ’ s own considered wisdom should The United States of America be recolonized by the British since to the best of our understanding slavery still exists in America ? Which world leader would make such a stupid and derogatory remark except Trump ?
We only bring up Trump for discussion not because we even

‘‘ So that whole story that forms the bedrock of democracy , one man one vote and which has been peddled to us on the coattails of the almighty dollar and which has earned Africa a bad rap is false . Apparently some votes are more equal than others in that convoluted American system .’’

remotely admire him but only because it is quite apparent that democracy has truly gone crazy if a Trump type can wiggle through the system and be elected as the supposed leader of the free world .
If a person who does not even believe in democratic ideals and demonstrated in his controversial campaign that he is willing and able to appeal to base instincts to popularize his agenda then it is time the world re-thought its stand on democracy .
We might as well toss out of the window that lofty ideal of a government of the people by the people for the people and admit that capitalism is the real driving force in the USA today . Consumerism driven by vulgar type of conspicuous consumption seems to be the norm .
America has voted in its first reality show president and Trump has even launched his TV station to ensure he controls the content .
America has elected a buffoon devoid of any political ideology and we can expect that he shall make up his non-existent ‘ philosophy ’ as he blunders along .
But we have oft quoted in this column that people get the leaders they deserve and we just have to sympathise with those Americans who are in shock and had demonstrated to oppose Trump ’ s election and point out that in this instance democracy has let them down .
The post election scenes would have made African countries look tame and the slogans ‘ not my president ’ would have resonated with many African countries . We are even hearing the change the constitution chant from those who can ’ t stomach a Trump presidency .
To the Americans who thought that this was just another reality show , where the villain is always the most admired character , then their wishes have come to pass . The only problem is that when they are tired they cannot simply switch channels and watch a more palatable offering .
But watch this space ; soon the Americans will be doing to us what they do best : preach . After all democracy resides in the books of American theory not practice . We just hope that whoever Trump picks to head their embassy here will not be just another uncouth American vomiting ‘ democrazy ’!
