- Reflect on your goal . How badly do you want to achieve it ? Is it finding a new job ? Is it growing your new business ?
- What will you do to achieve your goal ?
- What is currently standing in your way ? Is it fear , is it attitude or is it you who is used to complaining all the time
This process calls for some deep reflection . In order for you to fully concentrate on this activity , it requires you to take some time out away from the noise , the bustle of daily life and the obsession we have with our phones . Perhaps you could take a walk , sit under a tree and just enjoy some solitude as you think about these ideas ? Just how badly do you want something to change in your life ?
Sophie ( not her real name ) is a marketing manager who loves her job . She enjoys working with people .

‘‘ By its nature , coaching starts from the point where it assumes the client to have all the answers within themselves and the role of the coach is to help the client make sense of the thoughts , emotions and help with self awareness . Being coachable simply touches on if you are you open minded , ready and willing to work on the transformation in your life .’’

Lately she has noticed that the organization where she works seems to be undergoing some change . She senses that with the changes she is seeing and with the rumors flying around , it is possible that there may be a restructuring or retrenchment coming up . It might be likely that she could lose her job .
She is unhappy with the situation and has on several occasions shared her concerns with her friends . Sophie ’ s friends feel that she complains a lot , and they do sympathize with the situation but are asking , so what ’ s the plan ? What do you plan to do about the situation ?
Sophie is scared to do something . She is a very intelligent woman and has many great ideas but the fear is holding her back . Sophie seems happy in her comfort zone , in her complaining box . But since she was very honest with herself and her friends , she did admit that she needed to move out of that comfort zone and try new things .
With encouragement from her support circle , Sophie decided to take the plunge and work with a coach to help her crystallize her thoughts and overcome the fear . At the end of her very first session , she said of her proposed ideas - these things look do-able . It is just fear ; fear of the unknown and fear of failure .
How many of us are held back by that fear ? Perhaps more than we would care to admit . What does that fear feel like ? A big ball stuck in the throat ?
A heavy weight lodged on your shoulders ? A sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach ? Notice how you are feeling right now as you read this .
Now imagine what would happen if the fear was not there . What could you do or achieve ? What does that feel like ?
Ralph Waldo Emerson said , “ What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do .”
