Policy on sexual harassment

For purposes of ensuring that all the interns are treated well, the SEC has included them in the scope of its newly-minted Revised Rules and Procedures Involving Sexual Harassment Cases. Now, the interns can -- and do -- enjoy legal protection against being on the receiving end of any unwanted sexual advances. They need not worry, for their person and their dignity as professionals-in-the-making shall be accorded due recognition and respect.

Interestingly, the inclusion of the interns among the targeted beneficiaries of the policy is a historic first, and this is all to the good. Why? By articulating the special treatment given to the interns on account of their occupational vulnerability, the SEC is manifesting its willingness and preparedness to become a bastion of intolerance towards inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.

The aforecited Revised Rules and Procedures have taken effect since 16 January 2014, when SEC Office Order No. 21 was issued.

Inclusion equals protection.
