Many of the largest and most prolific superyacht shipyards are located in Holland, Germany and Italy. And no other destination attracts more of the world’s largest superyachts than the French Riviera and the recent Monaco Yacht Show. But those of us here in the U.S. are hardly second-class citizens when it comes to superyachts. In fact, several of this year’s hottest (and largest) superyachts are owned by Americans. And some will be at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show that’s just about to start. The show’s new “Superyacht Village,” which features a dedicated marina and on-land exhibition space at the Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina’s new “Pier South” property, is also making its debut. Madsummer, the 180-foot-long Heesen Vida, 236-foot-long Solo, and yachts from Benetti—including the 116-foot-long Mr. Loui and 125-foot-long Lejos—can be found there.
