ARTS EDUCATION CONFERENCE and MICA CONFERENCE The MAC is partnering with the Maine Department of Education to provide a conference on Thursday, October 6, 11:30a.m. – 4:00p.m. at the Franco Center, Lewiston featuring Cheryl Hulteen, author of YES YES GOOD: The heART of teaching. “Arts teaching professionals have much to share in their partnership to create personal artful pathways for students to express and explore creative voice through the arts. Using the Multiple Intelligences Theory, join us in a collaboration - defining, exploring, celebrating and understanding different practices of artful teaching. We will build a learning community that reflects the role the arts play in everything we do, teach and learn by strengthening the creative exchanges of artful process and practice. Come and celebrate the heART of teaching.” The cost is $40 that includes lunch. The Maine International Conference on the Arts begins at 4:30 on October 6 with a keynote and continues throughout Friday, October 7. Included in the MICA conference is a track for arts education that runs throughout the day. Sessions include: 1) STEAM panel; 2) Creativity; 3) Stories and photos from arts integration in Malawi; and 4) IntergenerationalCreative Aging. Some are listed below: • Ticket to Ride was established in 2010 and is available to any PK-12 Maine school. The program provides funding to defray the cost of travel for Maine schools wishing to visit Maine arts based venues and events as part of a well rounded curriculum. The Teaching Artists are available to conduct high-quality learning opportunities for students in school settings. The artists on the roster have demonstrated mastery of an artistic discipline, knowledge of expertise in sequential arts instruction, good communication skills, planning and organizational ability, and an understanding of their target learners.
