• Karrin Allyson with Fryeburg Academy students: Wednesday, November 9th, 7 p.m., Leura-Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center, Fryeburg. New-York based jazz vocalist and band leader, Karrin Allyson, has stunning musicality and technique. Her 13 recordings on the Concord label, for which she has received 4 Grammy nominations, cover wide stylistic ground. Karrin will be in residence at Fryeburg Academy on Monday and Tuesday, November 7th and 8th. The classes are open to all Maine high school students free of charge. She will perform with Fryeburg Academy students on Wednesday evening, November 9th. Contact Mike Sakash for more info ([email protected]) • Saxophonist, Jeff Coffin with Brewer High School Students: Thursday, November 10th, 7 p.m., Brewer Performing Arts Center Maine native and 3 time Grammy Award Winner, Jeff Coffin, is an exciting and innovative saxophonist. He is widely known for his extensive work with Bela Fleck and the Fleck Tones. In addition to working with his own group, Jeff Coffin and the Mu’tet, he tours frequently with the Dave Matthews Band. Jeff will be working with the Brewer students in the days leading up to the November 10 performance. (http://www.brewerperformingarts.com/) • Jazz Improvisation Weekend with guest artist, Graham Breedlove: December 10-11, Corthell Hall, USM Graham Breedlove is a trumpet soloist with the Army Blues band, and an innovative jazz composer and arranger. Graham is in demand throughout the country as a clinician and soloist, and directed the Maine All-State Jazz combo in 2014. Jazz Improvisation Weekend is a two-day event open to high school students. (https://usm.maine.edu/music) • Steve Grover Tribute, featuring pianist, Mike Beling: Cape Elizabeth High School The music community was deeply saddened this summer by the passing of jazz drummer, com poser, and educator, Steve Grover. Steve had been on the forefront of the New England jazz scene for many years performing with his own groups, appearing with high profile jazz artists, and through his teaching at the University of Maine, Augusta, and festivals throughout the country. Cape Elizabeth’s annual Jazz Cabaret, planned for late March, will pay tribute to Steve Grover’s musical legacy. The performance will feature jazz pianist and USM graduate Michael Beling.
