Supreme Court Moot
On the 19th June 2015 Strode’s College Law students took
part in a Moot at the Supreme Court, the highest court in
the United Kingdom. The scenario was based on an appeal
regarding the Heathrow Heist case in which, controversially,
the Judge dismissed the jury in response to concerns raised
about jury intimidation and ruled on the case himself. With
its clear links to clause 39 of Magna Carta this was deemed
a particularly symbolic choice of scenario. Judged by Lord
Neuberger, President of the Supreme Court, the four finalists
taking part in the Moot were James Quail and Daniel Green
(appellants) and Chloe MacKinnon and Daniel Mutton
(respondents). The moot was followed by a tour of Parliament
and a visit to the British Library Magna Carta exhibition.
