ARCHEOLOGY TRIP

11

"We visited Cromer beach to watch archaeologists from the Museum of London Archaeology's CITiZAN (Coastal and Intertidal Zone Archaeological Network) project, to record the wreck of the SS Fernebo. The ship was a Swedish vessel carrying timber which struck a mine and split in two on the 9 January 1917. The Cromer lifeboat, with Henry Blogg and his crew, managed to rescue all but one of the ship's crew. Today remains of one half of the ship are visible. The archaeologists photographed these remains and took scale drawings. We added records to the CITiZAN interactive map which can now be seen on their website. It was a great afternoon; we were able to see archaeologists in action, and have some fish and chips and ice-cream!"
