Psychology Trip

With the complicated and diverse nature of Psychology, many Year 13 students find it both a fascinating and challenging subject to study. To help us expand our knowledge and understanding, the Psychology teachers offered us the opportunity to visit Cambridge for a “tutor2u” conference on Friday, November 25.

The conference covered a range of vital topics (such as research methods that will appear in all three

of our exam papers). We were given

information booklets with exercises to help with revision and tips on how to answer exam questions. However, this was more than sitting and listening to someone drone on for five hours. There were a number of interactive activities and challenges, many of which Thorpe students won! In fact, Thorpe was very well represented. The activities also afforded the opportunity to address large groups, which several students did very well.

Following this opportunity, we have all noticed a marked improvement in our work and understanding. The conference was also particularly beneficial in improving more difficult skills such as application and evaluation, which the nation as a whole struggled with in the AS exams. We received some excellent advice about how to integrate these skills in our work and this has improved our confidence in these areas.

I would like to say to the Year 12 students that this sort of conference is incredibly beneficial and definitely worth going to. If you have any questions about it or Psychology as a whole, we are more than happy to help!
