Kirk Rice of Weskan, Kansas, earned a 500,000 acre award at Servi-Tech’s annual Professional Development Conference in Kearney. It is only the second 500,000 acre award that Servi-Tech has given in its 43-year history. Rice attributed his award and success at Servi-Tech to longevity and persistence. “I like the fact that you’re working 1-on-1 with farmers and helping them to the best job they can do. You form relationships,” Rice said. He consults on irrigated corn, wheat, alfalfa, pinto beans, milo, sunflowers and soybeans. Rice has worked for Servi-Tech since 1978. “The amount of acres Kirk has walked throughout his career is astonishing. It’s people like this who have a passion for what they do, and a general interest for helping our customers that make Servi-Tech what it is,” said Steve Soden, Chief Crop Services Officer at Servi-Tech. “People like Kirk Rice are the backbone of this company. We’re proud to have employees like him.” 17 He is active in his community, and is a member of the school board, the Rotary Club, and the Wallace County Ambulance Association. Rice said he tries to get involved if and when people need help in the community. A lot has changed in the 40 years since Rice started working for Servi-Tech. He’s now worked with the third generations of farmers on several of his customer accounts. Farm size has increased, technology has advanced, the size of equipment has changed and things like GPS have come into the fold in today’s world. “I thought I’d stay a couple of years, see what happens and move on,” Rice said. “I got involved in my community, and decided I didn’t want to do anything different.” Rice and his wife, Connie, have four kids, six grandsons and three granddaughters, ranging in age from 8 to 20. Kirk and Connie Rice live in Weskan, Kansas.
