Congratulations to Year 13 students Nathan Shoesmith & George Bowman who recently completed their enrichment programme on the Higher Sports Leader Award (HSLA), leading sports and physical activity sessions in the local community.
As part of the sports leadership enrichment programme, Nathan and George spent sessions over ten weeks at Woodside Care Home, encouraging their residents to partake in daily light exercise sessions. Nathan and George worked with residents throughout the care home on a number of different activities, including in the care home's specialist dementia unit.
Nathan said, “HSLA was challenging at times but also a rewarding learning experience for George and myself."
After fundraising an epic £4300 each, plus money for vaccinations, ‘Team Shama’, a group of students from Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form and Ashfield School, left for a 4 week expedition to the Sabah region of Borneo with Camps International. The expedition required hard work, mixing cement by hand, digging foundations for new community centres, laying bricks and planting trees, but we felt it was just as rewarding as the positive impact of our work was obvious to see.
