CERN Trip

In July, some students visited Geneva for an exciting trip- here is Philip Gay's story of his experience:

One of the first places we visited was CERN - the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. We were shown the Computer Systems, which transfer vast amounts of data in incredibly short amounts of time. We also witnessed a section of the LINAC where the process begins and were shown around the site. Following this we went to the UN buildings, and enjoyed a tour of the department for trade, which was thoroughly fascinating. We also went to a couple of museums, the first on science, including early discoveries such as telescopes, magnification, and the sightings of planets. The other one was the Red Cross museum. Overall this trip was informative and enjoyable, and was a valuable use of our time, showing the workings of Physics in the real world, and demonstrating how privileged we are to live in a democratic part of the world, where such good values and morals are upheld.
