The monasteries from Northern Moldavia A very few of us are realizing the real touristic potential that Northern Moldavia has. It is the region of Romania where you may see a great number of monasteries built by the medieval rulers/leaders of Moldavia, monasteries that represent a real original type of architecture, an original and unique type of external picture! The monasteries are located in the Northern part of Neamț County and around all of Suceava County! There are also many other monasteries and churches in the Iași County! Most of them are in Suceava region, that’s why I am going to start naming them from North to South: Putna, Moldovița, Sucevița, Bogdana, Arbore, Voroneț, Sihla, Agapia, Văratec, Bistrița (the last four located in the Northern part of Neamț County). The Putna Monastery Is situated in the far North of Moldavia and has been built by the Moldavian medieval ruler Stephen The Great in 1466. Beside its religious domain it is also an artistic and cultural centre. Putna Monastery Moldovița Monastery it is also a very old religious construction built in 1536 by the will of Moldavian ruler Peter Rareș. It is painted on the outside walls and it is included on the Unesco list of architectural monuments to preserve. The Voroneț Monastery is in the center part of Suceava County and is one of the most famous religious construction for its external paintings and for the blue coulour paint, unique in Magazine Without Borders Issue n°1 14/45 Sommaire
