Typically, migratory tarpon can be found in summer (June and July) in the Gulf of Mexico and
on the Caribbean coast, from Yucatan down to
Belize and Venezuela.
Big tarpon can be caught in October in Costa
Rica, in May in Florida and Louisiana. The islands
play a different role. Some of them have even
big tarpon (50-60 kilo eg Cuba, Bahamas, Virgin
Islands), whereas other Antilles Islands baby tarpon only from 10 to 30 kilos.
One of the top destinations for tarpon of varied
size is certainly Mexico. Campeche area is a top
spot for fishing babies ranging from 3 to 20/30
kilo and even fifteen fish per day can be caught.
Olbox can be good for fishing sedentary fish in
internal lagoons and migratory fish in open sea
in June and July. Early in the morning, the sea is

flat like a board and big rollin g fish can be seen.
Ascension Bay has tarpon all year long and migratory fish in July and August.
Belize and Honduras have sedentary tarpon and
a few migratory fish.
Venezuela and French Guyana have a good population of sedentary tarpon and limited possibilities for fishing migratory fish, since their passage
takes place and wide open sea.
