SIDE HUSTLE
MADE BY ASHLEY WHITE
It ’ s common to see millennials juggle a side hustle with a full-time job . Working full-time can fund your dreams or provide the tools and experience you need to turn your side hustle into your main source of income , if that ’ s your goal . However , managing the two can come with challenges and it requires determination and dedication to keep pushing forward when times get tough . No one knows this better than Nicaila Okome , the creator and host of Side Hustle Pro , a podcast that teaches you how to grow a side hustle from a passion project to a profitable business . MADE sat down with Okome to learn more about how to move your business forward while working full-time …
When asked , ‘ What does work-life balance mean to you ?’ Nicaila Okome made it clear that work-life balance is an unrealistic concept — and we couldn ’ t agree more . “ I always reframe the thinking around work-life balance because to me it doesn ’ t really exist . To me , balance assumes that you have this perfect situation where everything you love can be done at the same time or at the same period of your life . I had to learn to prioritize things a little bit higher than others to get into a good rhythm and habit and then I could add something back .” “ For example , there are periods where I need to prioritize my health and working out a little bit more than connecting with people after work . When I get back into a good rhythm and if I feel like my health and fitness is where I want it to be , then I let myself relax a little bit and have a happy hour date every now and then .” Okome works full time at NPR as Senior Manager of Digital Marketing . When she ’ s not at work , you can find her working on the Side Hustle Pro podcast , where she interviews Black women entrepreneurs who have scaled from side hustle to full time entrepreneurs . made-magazine . com | 38
