COVER+STORY community. I only want to raise a problem that are our teachers are teaching for their job sake only. What I feel is that teaching is not a job it is a duty. Moreover I want to break the myth that the person who goes to school and college and teaches a batch of student is only teacher. Anyone who is educated and teaches is a teacher and it is the responsibility of every educated person to spread their knowledge. So whenever you share your knowledge be cautious- don’t teach the wrong things. Because it may result disastrous. Our ex-president Mr. Kalam quoted in his book that "My idea of education is to bring out the creativity of the individual". Maybe it is his personal thought but surely he hasn't quoted it wrong and I too feel that the main agenda of a teacher behind teaching is to enhance curiosity and creativity of students. A teacher should always be supporting the right ideas of a student but are our teachers feel it important rather than completing their syllabus. Well teachers are not wholly responsible our students are equally responsible for this situation. Why our teachers has been bound by the boundaries of subjects and syllabus? Why objective of education is marks-oriented and ultimately, jobs-oriented? What happen to knowledgeoriented education model? Our teachers are powerful creature because they are the designer and builder of the next generation but do you think they realize the value of this power, from the present scenario I think no. I hope you’ve watched the movie Paathshala and in the climax Mr. Sahahya (Nana Partekar) delivers a small speech and that speech defines the power and problems of a teacher and it is something like “Vidya daan, itna noble profession hai lekin is profession mey jo log aa gye hai teachers hai unko sabse kam tanqwaha milti hai jab koi paryaya nhi rehta tab sikshak banane ki iksha se log yaha aate hai bura lagta hai.... Yeh jo pesa tha shikshak, hamesa mujhe ishara karta rha hamesha mujhe aisa laga ki ek mauka mil jata hai nyi pidhi ka nirmaan karmne ke liye, ek zindagi kam pad jaati hai aise kaam ke liye... maine isko kabhi dhandha nhi samjha, hamesha mere liye yeh pesha hi rha this is how I treat. Aaj yahi profession ek dhandha ban gya hai ek commercialization aa gya hai”. This is a dialogue which has more deep meaning and is not meant for entertainment of people, it is meant for bringing out the problem in front of our youth. From past one & half decade the craze of becoming teachers has lost, in fact it is the last option for an educated person to become a teacher. This shows that the noble profession is no more noble for our younger generation, why? There is less money in this field that is why youth aren’t preferring this profession. But should money be the prior things for our youth, I think no. The teaching field is the field where a person can interact with the new generation and can play a vital role in enhancing the abilities of the next generation. If the teachers do there duties honestly apart from teaching then they can really make a difference in the development of our country. There is always a light of hope in the darkest also. May be we’ve lost the glory of teachers whosoever be responsible it doesn’t matter but at that same moment we’ve teachers who are struggling to bring back the glory of teachers. There are teachers who don’t join teaching profession as a last option. It is their passion and they don’t teach for job sake. They feel their responsibilities as a teacher towards the students, society and country. The best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book 24
