COVER+STORY T-Day t he teacher story Lukesh Suryavanshi ndia is the country where teachers are worshiped. Even the kings and emperor can’t defy the commands of their gurus. We have many extracts from our mythology which proves above statements. There is no need to tell how much important a teacher is in everybody’s life. A great example is coming in my mind King Chandragupta Maurya, disciple and student of the great Chanakya. Chandragupta was the student who obeyed and followed the commands of his teacher and he turned into a king from the common boy. There are very well proofs which validates his achievements under the guidance of his guru Chanakya and hence he is also popular as king-maker, Chanakya himself is very knowledgeable man. And he wrote Chanakyaniti, a great book. So it proves that a true teacher and their teaching can turn up your life into high levels. There are no limitations of examples which can prove you a teacher is the real friend, guide, support, source of inspiration for a student. Randomly searching on internet and I’ve seen a statement which states that: ‘A good teacher is like a candle it consumes itself to light the way for others’. Ahh! These statement brings out the whole character of a teacher. There are endless good things to tell about teacher but let’s face the facts those were the past times when teachers are treated like god, and the good words about teachers are mere fancy words a lot I different from harsh reality so what happen now? Why those values, trends, tradition have been degraded? Now teachers are no more friends of student they are ultimately friends of money, some by need, some by problems and some by greed. I’m not blaming them they are also humans, they too have a family and they have to satisfy their needs and requirements. But how far it is right that a teachers doing the wrong deeds to fulfil their desires. Our whole education system has lost its glory and so (sorry to say) the teachers too lost their dignity. We blame the ministers and others for spoiling the education system but do you think they are the only one who are responsible for it? No, we (teachers & students) are also equally responsible for that because we are following the wrong pattern of teaching. What I’m seeing is that we are manufacturing the degraded students from our school & colleges who will ultimately costs the progress of our nation. Lets accept the truth that our education system is flawed and this is done by us and the people to whom we’ve given the responsibility to look after it. The responsible persons who are chosen to built the generation are the teachers. Forgive me, for my words but are they the rightful person? Are those persons capable of becoming teachers? Are they doing their jobs rightfully? Aren’t they responsible in corrupting the education system? Aren’t they playing footsie with the future of youth? Aren’t they responsible for commercializing the education? There are many more unanswered question but they all point to one thing only- is our teacher deserves to be a teacher? There is no intention of insulting or hurting feelings of any teacher or teacher 23
