M C A U P D A T E Fall 2018 Hello MCAs & MAA Members, To say that the fall is one of my favorite times of year in New England would be an understatement. As arborists, I think we can all appreciate the changing colors of our favorite trees and relief from the record temperatures and humidity that we have had to endure this summer! The MCA committee held its annual summer meeting in July. The commit- tee spent part of the meeting reviewing lapsed MCAs. If you’re still on that list, this is your last call for submitting a 2017 tally sheet before having your certification revoked. With that in mind, we would like to remind everyone how important it is to submit your annual tally sheet by February 15 each year. That deadline exists because spring and summer are extremely busy seasons for us all – once you miss that deadline, it’s hard to get back on track. So please mark your calendars, stay organized, and keep records of all of your continuing education credits in one place. (By the way, once you’ve earned 10 credits for the year you can always submit your sheet early). As we go to press with the latest MAA Newsletter, I am looking forward to our second MCA overview course. With the first one being such a success, my fellow MCA Committee members and I have been preparing for and refining the course material to better suit the needs of future MCAs. Thanks to our colleagues at MA DCR for partnering with us to bring you this course. The fall also means that the next MCA exam is right around the corner. The exam will held on Wednesday October 3rd at Elm Bank. This isn’t the usual Friday exam so please make sure to mark your calendar for Wednesday. I hope to see you there and wish everyone taking the exam the best of luck! Best wishes to all MCAs and MAA members, Max Ford-Diamond, MCA MCA Committee Chair Want to get involved with the MCA Program? The MCA Committee is seeking a few volunteers to assist with exam proctoring. Volunteers must be current MCAs. You’ll be asked to supervise the MCA exam, help candidates move to ID stations and check people in and out of the exam. If you’d like to volunteer, contact Carrie at the MAA office! 6 MAA NEWS / September 2018 2018 MCA COMMITTEE Max Ford-Diamond, MCA Chair & MCA Representative Boston Parks & Recreation Steve Mahoney, MCA Vice Chair Independent Brandon Maltby, MCA Maltby & Company, Inc.
