Arborist Insurance (continued from page 11) 5 Your Online Profile: Website, Social Media, Online Reviews According to the 2013 North American Commercial Underwrit- ing Survey, 55 percent of underwriters are "very effectively" using social networking and crowd-sourcing to gather risk infor- mation. In other words, your online profile may soon affect your insurance terms (if it isn’t doing so already). Nowadays, before any company writes your insurance, they will almost certainly review your website and your social media accounts. So, make sure your digital profiles are sparkling – and consistent with any information you include in your insurance application. Showcase your followers and your growing fan base. Invite customers to “talk up” your tree care services, along with any photos of your handiwork. As your business grows, remember that negative reviews on Yelp (or similar sites) could actually affect a carrier’s willingness to rewrite your policy. Try to respond to criticisms about your service, offerings, or appearance with thoughtful and timely clarifications. If you were in the wrong, explain how you are working to resolve raised issues. Conclusion Although commercial insurance terms and pricing are often diffi- cult to understand, there are many straightforward steps you can take to improve your business’ program. The first step should be choosing an arborist insurance team that is willing to work with you – throughout the year – providing useful information and proactive guidance. If it’s been a few years since you compared market offerings, take the time to invest in a review. You may be surprised by what you find.
