MAA Spring Programs The MAA board of directors has been hard at work identifying the trends, topics and training that will benefit the membership through the coming educational season. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can look forward to. TUESDAY • February 26, 2019 MAA Safety Saves Seminar TUESDAY • April 23, 2019 MAA Dinner Meeting & VISTA Award Presentation 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. MHS Elm Bank • 900 Washington St. • Wellesley, MA 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. • Educational Presentation is from 6-7 p.m. Ken’s Steak House • 95 Worcester Rd. • Framingham, MA First Aid for Tree Care Professionals SPEAKER: Russell Holman, MCA Hartney Greymont Tree work poses specific and inherent risks. This training will pre- pare you with the skills to respond to, and manage, an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrive. The instruction will be specific to situations that may be encoun- tered by tree care professionals. Participants will learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock, and other tree care industry first aid emergencies. The program is taught by an American Red Cross Instructor who is also a certified arborist. MAA Dinner Meeting 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.• Educational Presentation is from 6-7 p.m. Ken’s Steak House • 95 Worcester Rd. • Framingham, MA Establishing Strong Architecture in Young Trees SPEAKER: Jen Kettell Horticultural Consultant Taking the time to assess the framework of young trees at plant- ing is an often neglected and crucial step in ensuring their future health, as correcting structural defects in large, mature trees can be a risky business. We will review sound tree selection that matches habit with function, and provide useful tips for address- ing unrealistic client expectations during the planning/design process. Jen will also present the markers of healthy tree archi- tecture and demonstrate effective pruning techniques using her 10-step guide for correcting structural defects in the early years. MAA Safety Saves & Demo Day Save the date now, details to come. • • • • • • • RECERTIFICATION CREDIT: All MAA events qualify for MCA recertification credit and (depending on the content) some also provide an opportunity to gain MCA Safety Credit. Wherever possible, the MAA works with other organizations (e.g. ISA, MDAR and TCIA) to obtain additional recertification credit. Each meeting notice will clearly state what programs quality for which CEU credit. 2019 is going to be a great year of education and training for MAA members!
