M E M B E R & 2 0 1 9 V I S TA A w a r d I N D U S T R Y Join us on April 23, 2019 for the presentation of the VISTA Award! The VISTA award is the most important honor the association can bestow upon one of its members. It was conceived to recognize truly outstanding tree care professionals whose acts and deeds serve as a guide and challenge for all members of the industry. N E W S International Visit MAA members Dan Mayer, MCA and Matt Foti, MCA recently hosted five arborists from Latvia during their first visit to Amer- ica. Matt originally met arborist and European Tree Climbing Champion Edgars Neilands in the country of Georgia where Matt was called in to consult on a massive tree moving opera- tion. Later, he and Dan went back to Europe to see Edgars and learn more about arboriculture in Latvia. The relationship grew and in January Edgars returned with four of his Labie Koki crew members to visit Massachusetts. The Latvians toured the Boston Public Garden, Mt. Auburn Cemetery, The Greenway, Minute- man National Park and met with local tree care companies. They also had the opportunity to work alongside Mayer Tree’s profes- sional arborists. As Matt said, “Edgars is a pioneer who has intro- duced the science of arboriculture in his country. He has amazing energy and curiosity about everything green.” The award’s title is an acronym for V ision, I ntegrity, S ervice, T alent, and A ction – the leadership qualities inherent in all award recipients. This year’s VISTA Award will go to industry veteran and volunteer extraordinaire Richard Herfurth, MCA . We hope many of you can join us in celebrating Richard and his many achievements, as well as his countless contributions.
