Kevin Winston likes to push boundaries, so when I speak to him on the phone on a Thursday afternoon following the conclusion of the Silicon Beach Fest, I take no surprise when he deems Beverly Hills, his place of residence, to be part of Silicon Beach.

I eventually concede, accepting his broader definition of Silicon Beach: all of Los Angeles.

When we talk about more substantive matters, he quickly informs me that he likes to attend as many networking events in LA—ahem, Silicon Beach— as he can, going to two to three almost every day.

After all, he heads Digital LA, which calls itself “the largest networking organization based in LA,” running at least one to two events a week, on average. It becomes clear he has no plans to cease running as many events as he can, with a smaller-scale version of the just-concluded Silicon Beach Fest planned for November.

(While he is unsure as to exactly where the smaller Fest will be held, he tells me it won’t be on the Westside. He has previously held the November event in Pasadena, Hollywood, and Downtown.)

Although Kevin is a busy man, he takes a lot of time to simply enjoy life, making sure he goes to the beach, hangs with friends, and attends movie screenings on a regular basis. He is able to avoid keeping a formal calendar by mentally scheduling his happenings into two-hour blocks— a skill he learned while working at Fox Interactive Media.

He also plans to do some more school outreach to expand upon his success with connecting with the UCLA and USC communities.
