In Mauritius, the Bramer Bank’s identity is expressed in
the elegance of its buildings and its brand. To find out
more about it, we went to meet Rubina Rawat, Head
Private Banking, and Ravi Bhuruth, Vice-President
International Banking in the superb historical building on the Place d’Armes, which the Bank bought and
spent two years tastefully renovating. Looking to the future, it has recently opened Bramer House in the Ebene
Cybercity. The interview was characterised by enthusiasm,
frankness, a close knowledge of their various dossiers and
a willingness to listen.
For how long has Bramer been in existence?
Ravi Bhuruth: Since 2008, when the South East AsianBank was bought by British American Investment. It already had a very good record, and, over five years, assets
have grown by 370%, branches from 6 to 20 and the number of customers from 15,000 to 60,000!
Rubina Rawat: We see ourselves as pioneers and innovators, appealing to the well-off and an elite who can think
for themselves and are financially literate. An example
among many others: our interest rate on credit card accounts is the best available and we are the only bank to
offer a cashback system on balance transfers.

Who is the ideal Bramer customer?
RR: There is no such thing as a typical customer. We look
at each client and his/her individual financial requirements. We take time to listen and advise, and we offer bespoke products and make rapid decisions.
In terms of strategy and services for expatriates, how is
Bramer preparing for the future?
RB: We are very much aware that market needs are
changing and are well-informed on all the products intended specifically for private or professional investors.
The Bramer Bank is ever more present on the international financial scene. It recently participated, as part
of a consortium of well-known international banks, in
financing the operations of a multinational in the energy
sector, for a total amount of Rs 13.4 billion!
What products and services do you offer to foreigners?
RR: Everything they need and at a competitive tariff.
Foreign currency accounts, deposits with negotiable
rates, various forms of financing, treasury products.
And thanks to a worldwide network of partners and to
British American Investment, which provides us with a
springboard to Africa, we are able to create financial
opportunities in other markets.
RB: And we work in close co-operation with management companies, which are contributing to the presentboom in Mauritius, by dealing with foreign companies
and trusts managing wealth for those wishing to benefit
