MENORCA
New for its 2018 season, Torralbenc has launched a
new wine tasting experience – the first chance for
guests to tour the hotel’s vineyards and sample the
delicious homegrown white, red and rosé wine – on
foot or by bicycle. Ten years after the first seeds were
planted, guests will learn about the complexities and
varying notes of Menorcan wine, and exactly what
makes it one to watch. Set deep in 70 acres of peaceful
countryside, with centuries-old farm buildings at
its heart, Torralbenc is backdropped by views of the
Mediterranean. The hotel brings simple, understated
contemporary luxury to the south west of the island -
with just 27 rooms and cottages, a salt-water swimming
pool and delicious local food. Guests can borrow
bicycles to cycle to the beach, relax with a private yoga
class or call on a therapist for a massage.
`Torralbenc’s vineyard has undergone three growth
phases, with the first five hectares of vines planted in
2006 - although the winery project properly began in
2011, coinciding with the restoration of the estate. A
true labour of love, Torralbenc transformed what was
a barren land into a workable and productive vineyard.
The second phase saw five more hectares planted,
ending in 2013, when the winery project was halted.
This gave the young vines time to mature before
producing their first wine. Last year, the addition of
four more hectares of vineyards coincided with the
introduction of Pinot Noir to Torralbenc’s selection,
with the final two hectares planted in 2018. Today, 16
of the estate’s 70 hectares are dedicated to growing
grapes.
