Kenesha Lewis by: Brandee J Tell us why you started Style Statement blog? I started blogging one summer in college during an internship in a small retirement town. I was feeling so alone with no friends or family around. It was a way for me to share my experience and have an outlet. I stopped blogging after that summer and always wanted to start again, I was “too busy” working my corporate job. To be very candid, I was just making excuses and there were already so many bloggers. What did I have to offer? I silenced that voice in my head and Style Statement was born July 2017, and I couldn’t be more grateful that I took the risk. It has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone in a major way, find time when I am “too busy”, and connect with other bloggers who have turned into friends and collaborate with amazing brands and products! Blogging is something I want to do in the midst of a million things I must do, blogging is my creative outlet and something that gives me joy! Lastly, I started blogging because I wanted to share my voice, and when women like you reach out to me it makes it all worthwhile. You are about showing others how to define their style and make a statement with confidence. Why is that important to you? Being confident in yourself starts from within and reflects to the outside. It is important to me because I am not perfect, but every day I get up, put on my clothes, and always allow space for my purpose to grow organically. I thought I knew what I wanted to do, but my path has drastically changed; I found my purpose through many turns and that’s what I want to show my readers. Curating your own look can also make you feel good and save a lot of money. We see so many trends, but every single one of them is designed for you, so it’s important to choose the style that speak into the world in your voice. Honestly, workout leggings and an oversized T-shirt are great, but you can’t tell me you don’t hold your head higher and smile bigger when you have on your favorite jeans, wrap top, heels, and a red lip! What makes your blog different from the rest? Although I post pictures of my outfits, I also get real with my readers about the journey through my twenties. In this era of social media, where perfect pictures flood your timeline, it is also important to say: “Hey, this is me.” My feed isn’t uniform, but I always have something to say and share. It is important for me to show that I don’t have it all figured out, but I am fighting to be better every day. I know fashion can seem vain, but I am not the blogger to flaunt designer clothes. In fact, I am not afraid to show you how to rock a $7 skirt! Some of my favorite pieces are under $10! When readers visit your blog what is the one thing you want them to take away from your post? That I am them! That the girl who is sitting behind this website is just like them! I want them to take away that if I can do it, they can too! I counted myself out too many times and wasted so much time creating this ‘what if ’ scenario
