Maintaining a Body
Positive Mentality
by: Cadori
“There are no perfect people” we claim repeatedly, yet we keep comparing ourselves to others anyway. You can
blame the human element for this misconception, the innate belief that there is something lacking in us but
prevalent in others. Both men and women alike experience dissatisfaction with their bodies, and it is true for
all types.
Even if no one else sees our flaws, they are poignantly conceivable to us.
The only way to battle these intrinsic thoughts is with intentional ones, and positive affirmations go a long
way in laying the foundation of self love and acceptance.* Thanks to Shawn M. Burns Ph.D. and his article
Five Research-based Tips For Improving Your Body Image, we can share some of these tools to help you
make this happen:
“I am unique and there is no one else on the planet like me, which makes me an original. An original is
always worth more than a copy!”
“I’m going to take care of myself the best way I know how as often as I
can and not feel guilty if I make mistakes. I can always use some mistakes to learn from.”
This one might be cheesy at first, but the more you do it the more natural and important it becomes to
hear. So look in the mirror everyday and tell yourself “I love you.”
“I will be happy today, regardless of anyone else’s opinion of me.”
Every day give yourself a huge hug; you are doing great.
