Live Vain Fashion Show Las Vegas

By Porsche Bowie

When fashion shows are praised, there are certain cities that you automatically associate with its success: New York, Paris, London, Milan and Los Angeles, just to name a few. But what if I told you that Las Vegas was trying to join the aforementioned, and become part of the cool kids club? You might laugh, and your desire to gamble might be triggered by the mere mention of the city, but it only takes that experience to raise your expectations to the next level. Live Vain fashion show is that experience.

Rita Price, the creator of the Live Vain brand spoke with Luxe Kurves about fashion representation, what it means to live vain, and what it means to be a luxe kurvy girl.

Porsche Bowie: Live Vain is a very powerful statement and it may make some people uncomfortable. Tell me about where the inspiration behind the name.

Rita Price: To Live Vain is to live only by the opinion that you have of yourself, and beyond the opinion of others. We can get so caught up in worrying about how other people feel about us and dilute our true selves. When that happens, we start to mold ourselves to what other people think we should do and then we lose ourselves. As long as we are respectful of those around us, we should be able to do what we want, dress how we want and be free.

PB: I notice that your line has straight sizes and luxe (plus) sizes. Is that something that you did consciously, or is that something that just falls under the brand of living vain?

RP: Actually, tonight is the launch of my plus line. The garments that are being shown tonight were not available on the website before today! That’s the exciting thing. I’m just going based off of what my customers wanted. They wanted plus, I’m giving them plus. That way we can have something for everybody.

PB: How important was it for you to get that feedback? Was there an open forum, Q&A? How did you hear your customer’s requests?

RP: You know what? Instagram! Instagram is so huge! People would tell me my garments were cute, but would inquire about it in plus size and you know what? I’m getting it now. People want plus; they’re getting plus! I want to make sure that people know that cute, fashionable and sexy clothing aren’t only for the size 0’s and the size 5’s!

PB: This is your first fashion show and I’m looking around at the VIP area, the bar, the gift bags… tell me about this process and how important it was to step out so strongly in Vegas.

RP: I feel like there’s a struggle in fashion in Vegas. A lot of people are scared to push that envelope. People do what they see in magazines and here and there, but they’re scared to go beyond that, because in essence, they’re just following the path that’s safely paved. I want to show people what I’m doing, and hopefully they’ll be inspired. We are struggling here. New York has it, LA has it, even Miami has it, what is Vegas doing?! Vegas is huge; everybody is here! What are we doing? We have to step it up.

PB: You are definitely stepping it up for the area. Where can people view your line?

RP: www.live-vain.com

PB: Since this is your first show and you’re featuring a luxe size for the first time, tell us what it means to be luxe and how that coincides with your line.

RP: Luxe means the best! It means ‘I’m amazing!’ It means that you’re sexy and deserving of all the fashionable garments of every other size.
