Q and A: Monika Radulovic “The fantastic thing about our country is that it also offers education, language courses and vocational placement plans for the refugees coming in thereby making sure they are safe and taken care of when they arrive in Australia.” It’s really important to me that I remain myself and don’t lose sight of what makes me who I am. Rather, I am focusing on honing in on the skills which I already have and developing and fine-tuning them.  You’re not getting married until 2018. What kind of wedding are you planning? To be honest I have no idea! I haven’t even thought about planning a wedding as we have so much time. Right now my sole focus is on the Miss Universe international pageant and doing everything I can to bring home that crown! We are dying to know- how did he propose? Ok, well the short version is that when I was in Paris alone, I put a lock on the Pont des Arts (love lock bridge) for us. Alesandro then took me back to Paris 6 months later and we went to Pont des Arts and found our lock together. He then surprised me with a new lock which had “Monika, Will you marry me?” engraved on it. It was very romantic! :) What would be the dream location for your honeymoon?  There are so many places I’d love to go!  I haven’t decided on what kind of honeymoon I would want though (adventurous or relaxing) but we still have a few years to select a place hehe! 18 What do you think is the best advice you can give women out there who feel insecure about how they look? I think the crucial thing is that you need to embrace your uniqueness and love yourself and everything that makes you different–that’s what makes you YOU! When you learn to love yourself, the confidence will naturally come.  You came to Australia as a refugee, so it’s obviously a subject close to your heart. Do you think Australia should open its borders? Why/why not? I actually came to Australia on a permanent visa, however I was a refugee in Denmark before coming to Australia so the subject definitely is close to my heart. I think Australia is on the right path, already agreeing to take a further 12,000 refugees from Syria. The fantastic thing about our country is that it also offers education, language courses and vocational placement plans for the refugees coming in thereby making sure they are safe and taken care of when they arrive in Australia. What advice would you give your 15 year old self? I would tell myself to stop taking life so seriously, and just enjoy it! I, like many teenagers, tended to stress out over little things which made them seem much more severe than they were. I would also tell myself to embrace what made me unique and to stop trying to fit in!
