Ships Log: EST. Date – October 3, 2001
“This is Dr. Emmett Che. This is my first log since the senseless death of my partner, Griffin.
I have undergone many changes since visiting the mysterious red planet, and its horde of element
115. When an ape, the Guardian of the Element, and I fell into a pool of 115, something happened
to both of us. I believe the element somehow bonded with our flesh. It has turned my skin green and
my mind inside out. It also gave the Guardian language, empathy, sensate thought processes.
“I can feel an energy flowing through me like the power of a sun. I believe I may even
have to power to generate the gravitational field necessary for folding space time without using the
element. So far my powers are weak. I have been able to teleport to different parts of the Machine,
and once accidentally went outside the dome into the vacuum without my suit, and was not harmed.
I do not pretend to understand how this is all possible, but it is the truth.
“Bob Lazar once told me that it was in his advantage that no one believes his stories, true as
they may be, so he could run his scientific business. I do not hold this same feeling. Everyone should
know of this power. Element 115, in a stable form like found on the horde planet, could change the
life of every living creature. I will get to the bottom of this mystery. I will expose the truth, and everyone will know my power.”
Emmett sat at the work bench, building a coil for his electronic cigarette. Tasks like this
helped take his mind off the loss of Griffin. He screwed the coil down and threaded the cotton into
place. He put the tank back together and filled it with liquid.
He knew what he had to do next. Find the planet with the Birds. He knew only minimal
information about the planet and its inhabitants, but he did know it orbited Alnitak, a triple star in
Orion’s Belt, some 736 light-years from Earth, near the Horsehead Nebula. They had to have some
answers for him.
He went up top to the dome of the Machine and sat down. He was going to attempt to his
first long distance travel without using the Element 115. He closed his eyes, and pictured the blue
supergiant, that was the primary star of Alnitak. He could feel the heat building in his core. Then
his body became denser and denser. He felt he might explode with a new Big Bang at any moment.
Then everything outside the machine began bending and stretching. He could see the distortion
through his closed lids, with his third, empowered eye, and then suddenly, a coolness, a calm, a
release of tension. He opened his eyes to see the giant horsehead and the three stars. He was still a
good distance from them, but he felt it was quite the accurate journey for his first time. He stood up
and took the controls of the Machine and headed for Alnitak. Headed toward answers.
