L U R E L U R E AGENDA A Four things you won’t know about this photo This image was taken under the surface of Bewl Water in the county of Kent, UK, a trout water and the biggest reservoir in the southeast of England. The hand releasing this perch back into the clear Bewl waters belongs to Sky TV angling presenter Andy Ford. This was one of over 90 perch caught during a day’s fishing next to Bewl’s towers in 30 feet of water. The fish were taking small lures around a foot off the bottom. The fish was caught during a baking hot summer’s day and fell for a 1in Relax Kopyto soft plastic shad presented on a 5g jighead. ddictive, exhilirating, fast, frantic and massive fun – lure fishing is by far the coolest branch of this fish-chasing sport you’re ever likely to find. Given all this it’s no wonder it’s growing faster than ever before, right across Europe and the world. For those of us that have been doing it for years it’s a massively exciting time, with more choice and innovation every year, from an ever-growing army of companies producing lures, rods, reels, line, clothing and everything else we covet. For anglers who are new to the sport the most important thing is that lure fishing is ready to go when you are. Rod, reel, bag… bang, you’re doing it. Plus it’s as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. Everyone can do it, everyone can catch fish and everyone can enjoy it. From the total beginner to the top echelons of lure geeks and monster haulers, everyone can get from it what they want with a massive and often manic smile on their face. And that’s the cult of lures. It’s not just about the fish, it’s the whole scene. That awesome vibe, a brotherhood of lure casters that, no matter where you are in the world, no matter what water you’re on, if you see someone lure fishing you can tip them the nod and know the score. This is exactly what LURE pays homage too. We want you to be inspired to grab your kit and get out there lure fishing – whenever, wherever, whatever. Enjoy the read. Editor
