Simplicity: the dialogue between Panzeri and Matteo Thun Euroluce 2019 novelties: two families of lamps designed by the architect for Panzeri E very relationship begins with a choice. We approach by affinity, empathy or shared values. This was also the case for the meeting between Matteo Thun and Panzeri. The architect and designer is among the greatest representatives of Italian creativity in the world. Many are the awards received by his works, ranging from architecture to interiors and design. The first point of contact between Matteo Thun and Panzeri resides in the importance given to time. Trusting long-term relationships, believing in simplicity, in what lasts beyond the trends of the moment, seeking change and innovation without renouncing the values of tradition. We share the passion for light. “What is my personal relationship with light? It is a very delicate question – says Matteo Thun. In a microsecond, it influences our perception of a space.” As an architect, Thun designs buildings that respect the essence of the place, enhancing its material qualities and conveying the idea of “eye-touching”, the desire to “touch with the eye”. How and how much does light help to cause sensory stimuli? “It’s all about the temperature of light, it can make you smile or shudder,” says the architect, who furthermore adds, about the role of lighting in his projects: “The conscious use of light is an important part of the interior concept, in all the areas of a building. Not only does light have to correspond to architectural volumes, it creates a feeling, it is important for the composition of different moods.” Aesthetics or functionality? “Both, one does not exclude the other.” Being linked to tradition does not mean looking back at the past with nostalgia, and it is with this conviction that the company and the architect share the constant search for technologically innovative solutions, proposing a contemporary design that combines tradition and present. How was the collaboration with Panzeri born? “Panzeri is an ideal partner, a company that perfectly combines the craft and the industrial process, having a strong focus on public projects.” How do you combine your style with that of the company? “Collaboration means being in constant dialogue.” Panzeri Firefly The philosophy of Thun and his studio - Matteo Thun & Partners, with offices in Milan and Shanghai - is “Zero Design”: the search for the essence of shapes, up to the archetype, to what resists over time and stay always contemporary. Even the two lamp families designed for Panzeri are born from the concept of “no-ego” products? “In designing the Tubino collection were inspired by the simplicity of the torch. Firefly is a classic icon with wireless technology: a small lamp that combines tradition with high-level innovation.
