Simplicity:
the dialogue
between
Panzeri and
Matteo Thun
Euroluce 2019 novelties:
two families of lamps
designed by the architect
for Panzeri
E
very relationship begins with a choice.
We approach by affinity, empathy or shared
values. This was also the case for the meeting
between Matteo Thun and Panzeri.
The architect and designer is among the greatest
representatives of Italian creativity in the world.
Many are the awards received by his works,
ranging from architecture to interiors and design.
The first point of contact between Matteo Thun
and Panzeri resides in the importance given to time.
Trusting long-term relationships, believing in
simplicity, in what lasts beyond the trends of the
moment, seeking change and innovation without
renouncing the values of tradition.
We share the passion for light.
“What is my personal relationship with light?
It is a very delicate question – says Matteo Thun.
In a microsecond, it influences our perception
of a space.”
As an architect, Thun designs buildings that respect
the essence of the place, enhancing its material
qualities and conveying the idea of “eye-touching”,
the desire to “touch with the eye”.
How and how much does light help to cause sensory
stimuli? “It’s all about the temperature of light,
it can make you smile or shudder,” says the architect,
who furthermore adds, about the role of lighting
in his projects: “The conscious use of light is an
important part of the interior concept, in all the areas
of a building. Not only does light have to correspond
to architectural volumes, it creates a feeling,
it is important for the composition of different moods.”
Aesthetics or functionality? “Both, one does not
exclude the other.”
Being linked to tradition does not mean looking
back at the past with nostalgia, and it is with this
conviction that the company and the architect
share the constant search for technologically
innovative solutions, proposing a contemporary
design that combines tradition and present.
How was the collaboration with Panzeri born?
“Panzeri is an ideal partner, a company that
perfectly combines the craft and the industrial
process, having a strong focus on public projects.”
How do you combine your style with that
of the company? “Collaboration means being in
constant dialogue.”
Panzeri Firefly
The philosophy of Thun and his studio - Matteo
Thun & Partners, with offices in Milan and Shanghai
- is “Zero Design”: the search for the essence
of shapes, up to the archetype, to what resists
over time and stay always contemporary.
Even the two lamp families designed for Panzeri
are born from the concept of “no-ego” products?
“In designing the Tubino collection were inspired
by the simplicity of the torch. Firefly is a classic icon
with wireless technology: a small lamp that combines
tradition with high-level innovation. Both series
can be easily applied, hide technology and are designed
to be as simple as possible – the opposite
of super-structures or stylistic excess.”
