A Barbara mi hanno legato 20 anni
di collaborazione e una trentina di mostre
sulle quali abbiamo avuto modo
competenza nell’affrontare i problemi,
del suo coraggio ed entusiasmo nel prendere
le decisioni, della sua fantasia ed originalità
nell’immaginare le soluzioni. È stato un
privilegio poterla conoscere e lavorare con lei.
20 years of collaboration have tied me
and Barbara. About thirty exhibitions on
which we have had the opportunity to work
together, creating a cohesion that has lasted
from our first steps in this field throughout
our professional growth.
Such a lasting journey certainly testifies my
great esteem for her professional skills, but
what I today remember and regret, above all,
is her openness to dialogue and her special
humanity, which from the beginning have
made our relationship a profound friendship,
more than just a work experience.

L’ultima volta che ho incontrato Barbara
è stata all’inaugurazione della mostra
di Caravaggio da lei illuminata in modo
superbo.
Caravaggio”.
The last time I met Barbara was at the
inauguration of the Caravaggio exhibition
that she superbly lit up. To my more than
heard compliments she answered, with
the usual calmness, "I simply followed
the light of Caravaggio".

"Art is illusion: architecture is illusory: without
violating the structural integrity, but rather
interpreting it, we must reach the expression
(illusion) of lightness: which is the character
of today's architecture" (Gio Ponti)
The apparent lightness in Barbara's gestures
was the result of her research and
competence in dealing with problems,
her courage and enthusiasm in making
decisions, her imagination and originality
in imagining solutions. It has been a privilege
to know her and work with her.

sue mani afferrare il mio braccio all'apparire
Ricordo, vedo, sento; in questi tre verbi
In recent months, to think of Barbara did not
weight on me as much as to write of Barbara;
the rhetoric of the pain often leads to easy
words of circumstance. I could mention her
unmistakable stern smile, or talk about her
immense professional passion, her sober and
affectionate relationship, as an elder sister,
with her collaborators, of her suitcase always
ready for business trips around the world, etc.
I would rather let myself be carried away
by more real and spontaneous memories,
those that are nestled in the recesses of the
deepest memory, which re-emerge with
an aggressive sweetness when I think of her.
I remember the natural gesture with which she
picked up her hair with a rubber band before
starting to work with electricians; I still see
her smoking after dinner, sitting in the dark
with her eyes lost on Bevania's starlit sky; and
I still feel her hands grasping my arm at the
sudden appearance of two large dogs, on the
path that led between fields of beans and
sunflowers up to the Cantina Castelbuono.
I remember, I see, I hear; in these three verbs,
declined at the present tense, lies the essence
of my relationship with Barbara's memory.
