Slideshow By the time he was 16, Clifford had earned Natal Junior Deep- sea Colours, (he was at Pieter- maritzburg College) having spent every weekend at the family cot- tage in Pennington, doing what he loved best – fishing! . In 2010 Clifford took over the running of the Joey’s Tournament Trail (formerly the Y-Bass Series) which he’s run successfully ever since. This is the biggest Cast-for-Cash tournament in KwaZulu-Natal. After school, he spent a year in Mozambique as a fishing guide for Lodges in Mozambique – where he took many guests fish- ing out at sea. For the last five years he’s fished with Protea angler Gavin Rich- ardson who has a Ruffnek Torna- do Bass boat with a 300hp Yamaha motor. This outfit is kitted with Lowrance HDS 12 and 9 Gen 3 units and two Gen 2 HDS 7’s, TotalScan transducers and a TM150 Chirp as backup. His first introduction to bass fish- ing came in 2008 when he opened Aqua Academy in Piet- ermaritzburg (which he ran until 2015) and he became a member of Midlands Bassmasters. He gained most of his knowledge and skill at Albert Falls Dam - his favourite “home” fishing ground. He says, “Our favourite feature is DownScan imaging with Fish Reveal which adds a new dimen- sion to our fishing and the Point 1 antenna is a must.
